May 7, 2024

My mission is to empower moms to transform
from confusion about healthy eating and lifestyle, exhaustion, and stress,
to renewed energy, vibrant well-being and confidently making lasting, positive changes for a healthier, happier, more fulfilling life.

Hello & welcome

Popular right now

Are you feeling stuck in a cycle of struggling with your health or various aspects of your life, despite your best efforts to break free? If so, you’re not alone. I’ve been in that same place, wrestling with challenges that seemed insurmountable. But what if I told you there’s a path forward? What if health coaching could be the key to unlocking your potential for lasting change?

In this blog post, we will explore the transformative world of health coaching. We start with two foundational principles and the role of a health coach in guiding your wellness journey. We’ll also look at my personalized 1:1 Health Coaching Program, designed to empower you on your path to wellness. Finally, we’ll uncover what makes health coaching unique and if it’s right for you.

Two Core Principles of Health Coaching

Two Core Principles of Health Coaching

A health coach collaborates with a client to develop strategies for lasting lifestyle changes that optimize wellness and quality of life. As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, I focus on the relationship between food and lifestyle and how they affect health as well as lifestyle factors, including relationships, sleep, creativity, and joy.  This program is taught by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching is founded on 2 core principles:

1. Bio-Individualtity

If you could snap your fingers and be living your healthiest life, what would it look like? Better yet, what would it feel like? Your vision of health will be different from everyone else’s. That’s because there’s no single definition of or path to optimal health.

Bio-individuality means that each person has unique needs and these can change over time. When it comes to diet and lifestyle, what makes you happy and what works for you, likely won’t work for your family and friends or co-workers. This concept applies to what we eat and well as what nourishes us off the plate. Fundamentally, we are each unique in how we are fulfilled and nourished.

2. Multidimensional Health

When you think about what nourishes you, what comes to mind? Perhaps it’s a career path that’s deeply fulfilling or the relationships you have with your dearest friends. Maybe it’s taking a long walk through the forest or drawing in a sketchbook.

Multidimensional health is the idea that health is holistic and extends into all aspects and dimensions of the individual. Each of these aspects of health – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual – is interconnected and influences the others along the journey to whole-person health.

This principle is captured in the IIN Circle of Life. The circle is composed of 12 areas of life that feed your body, mind, and spirit and contribute to your health and happiness. It offers an opportunity to celebrate areas that are balanced and  focus on areas that you can infuse more satisfaction into.

The Role of a Health Coach

So let’s explore the Integrative Nutrition Health Coach’s role in a client’s journey to health and wellness. Fundamentally, a health coach supports a client to develop strategies to enact real, lasting lifestyle changes that enhance overall well-being. The health coach collaborates with the  client to determine where to start the change process and how to make sustainable shifts towards their wellness goals. However, a health coach does not diagnose, treat, or take responsibility for bringing about wellness changes in a client’s life; rather, a health coach supports and provides a safe space for the client to mobilize internal strengths and external resources to achieve their unique goals.

Here are some topics Health Coaches may address with their clients:

  • Physical Activity: Encourage clients to engage in low risk exercise and physical activity and explore ways to live a less sedentary lifestyle.
  • Relationships: Explore important relationships and strengthen social connections.
  • Food: Identify ways to crowd out less healthy foods and incorporate more nutrient-dense whole foods, superfoods, and home cooking. These are client-directed changes rather than prescribing a meal plan or strict regimen.
  • Career: Encourage clients to evaluate how their careers affect their well-being and implement strategies for managing work-related stress, navigating professional changes or exploring new hobbies and interests.
  • Spirituality: Support clients to engage in self-reflection or contemplative practices that strengthen spiritual connection, such as meditating or spending time in nature.

2. The Program

The program includes 12 sessions of 50 minutes. You decide between weekly meetings for 3 months or biweekly for 6 months. This provides a timeframe for you to successfully make lasting changes and ensure they are sustainable. We will meet virtually or in-person on a set schedule that works for you. In the first session, I will support you to define your health and wellness goals. In the sessions, we will:

  • Review your progress since the last session celebrating successes and evaluating barriers.
  • Explore one of your wellness goals.
  • Set two or three SMART goals for sustainable changes you want to make by our next session.

After the session, I will:

  • Provide a summary of the goals you set in the session and any resources that will support you in achieving your goal.
  • Support you via email or messaging if you have any questions or challenges between sessions.

3. Beyond the Coaching Program

This is the last stage of the program which covers the final sessions and beyond. During this time, the focus is on reflection, closure, and planning for life beyond coaching. We celebrate your progress and identify key takeaways from your time in coaching and I assist you in creating a sustainable path forward for your health and wellness.
